Do Ukrainians Need a Visa for China in 2026

Yes. For a regular trip to the mainland - tourism, business, study, work, a family visit - Ukrainian citizens need a visa. Ukraine is not on the list of countries with China's unilateral 30-day visa-free entry. There are three legal exceptions where no visa is needed:

• Visa-free transit up to 240 hours (10 days). Ukraine is on the 55-country list for this programme. Conditions: you travel to a third country, China is only a stopover, you have a confirmed onward ticket within 240 hours, you enter via one of the designated ports, and you do not leave the 24 permitted provinces.
• Hainan island. Ukraine is on the list of countries eligible for visa-free entry to Hainan for up to 30 days, but only on arrival as part of a tour group or through a licensed local travel agency that files your details with immigration in advance. Independent booking does not qualify, and it applies within the island only.
• 24-hour transit at any port without leaving the transit zone.
• In all other cases a corresponding visa is required. If your destination is mainland China - Guangzhou, Beijing, the Canton Fair, a factory, negotiations - plan on obtaining a visa.

• L - tourism, visiting friends, private trips. Single or double entry, up to 30 days per entry.

How Much a China Visa Costs in 2026

• Personal submission, stage 2: stamping the visa after confirmation - 4 business days, or 1 day in express mode.
• General rule: submit your documents at least 2-3 weeks before departure, and earlier ahead of the fair.

Is Biometrics Required

For short-term visas (tourist L, business M) biometrics are not required. They are collected only for long-term visas that convert into a residence permit: X1, Q1, S1 and long-term Z. The biometrics exemption for short-term visas is in effect until the end of 2026. This is exactly what allows tourist and business visas to be processed entirely remotely.

How Processing Works: Step by Step

The application journey has five stages regardless of the visa type.

• Consultation. The required visa type is determined, the visa history is checked, and the passport, photo and application data are collected.
• Package preparation. Supporting documents and an invitation, if needed, are prepared and the COVA form is filled in.
• Electronic submission. Documents are uploaded to the PRC consulate site in Chisinau and reviewed online.
• Passport submission. You send the original passport via Nova Poshta; it is handed to the consulate for stamping.
• Passport return. The finished passport with the visa is delivered to you via Nova Poshta or courier.

Common Refusal Reasons

The most common grounds: the visa type not matching the trip's purpose, a problem with the invitation for category M, data mismatches between the form and the documents, Hong Kong or Macao in the route on a single-entry visa, a photo not meeting requirements, and submission right before departure. In every case the final decision on issuing the visa rests with the consulate, and fees already paid are not refunded in case of refusal.
